Our first priority is to meet basic human needs, but we recognize the importance of programs that go beyond the basics of food, shelter, clothing and safety. In addition to meeting basic needs, The Salvation Army strives to provide programs that will help children thrive during crucial developmental years from after school programs and summer camps, to childcare and toys at Christmas.
2022 Summer Day Camp Begins June 6, 2022
This program engages elementary school age children in a fun packed curriculum, including crafts, music, skits, games, Bible lessons, field trips, swimming and community service. One week during the summer is dedicated to Vacation Bible School. There are no income requirements for this program. Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCCAP) is accepted and financial aide is available for qualifying families. We also provide week-long camps at The Salvation Army High Peak Camp in Estes Park - please contact us for details and dates.
The program provides a supervised, safe, affordable and licensed tutoring and character building program for up to 44 school-age children. Transportation is provided from many D11 schools to The Salvation Army where children receive a snack; then with the assistance and supervision of our qualified staff and trained volunteers, students complete homework and engage in meaningful recreational activities reinforcing social, developmental and life skills.
The Red Shield After School Program is designed to reduce behavioral problems and bring youth and at-risk youth to grade level standards. Last year, more than 40% of the 156 areas graded for these students were below grade level when entering the program. By the end of the year, more than 75% of the youth were meeting grade level requirements.
